Factors Influencing Children's Attitudes toward Their Peers with Disabilities
Sophie M. Bradburn; Megan C. Ryan; Willie Leung
Journal of Physical Education, Recreation & Dance, v95 n3 p56-56 2024
Attitudes toward people with disabilities greatly influence the lives of people with disabilities, especially during childhood. Negative attitudes toward children with disabilities are considered a barrier to the social participation of children with impairment in academics, organized sports, and social events. However, positive attitudes will lead to greater benefits from inclusive programs, such as inclusion in classrooms and learning environments. Crucial variables such as gender, culture, age, socioeconomic status and interaction and contact with people with disabilities could influence the attitudes of peers without disabilities toward children with disabilities.
