Try This: The Beginning Connection in an Online Course: Crucial!
Sull, Errol Craig
Distance Learning, v20 n2 p13-16 2023
In this "Distance Learning" Special Issue, Errol Craig Sull introduces the "Try This" series of articles to assist with Becoming a Better Distance Learning Instructor. Sull notes, in this article, what the distance learning educator does in the first few days in a course can go a long way in setting the tone for the entire course, and getting students initially excited, motivated, and enthusiastic about being in the course. When this happens assignments have more meaning and are not only turned in, but turned in on time! This contact and motivation by the instructor has to continue throughout the course, but it is in the course's early days where the opportunity to connect or disconnect with students begins. The ten "Try This" suggestions will provide the distance learning instructor not only with a strong start, but a continuing student connect.
