Affiliates That Work: Engaging Student Members
Russell, Mia B.; Holland, Jacqueline; Smith, Connica; Drakeford, Janice
Journal of Family and Consumer Sciences, v114 n4 p52-53 Win 2022
Professional organizations and associations help foster professionalism and build the capacity of a profession; however, relevance, recruitment, and retention of members have long-plagued professional organizations, especially as they try to recruit younger members. Although these challenges are reported at national levels across various fields, a void exists in our understanding of the unique experiences and challenges at local levels, that is, with affiliates or chapters (Agarwal & Islam, 2016; Yeager, 1981). We learned that student engagement is predicated on university, program, and faculty support.
