Parent Engagement at a Primarily Latinx High School Campus
Landa, Luis; Snodgrass Rangel, Virginia; Coulson, Hilary
Journal of Latinos and Education, v22 n2 p566-582 2023
Though there have been multiple studies on engagement among Latinx families, less is known about Latinx parental engagement at the secondary level or about engagement at predominantly Latinx schools. The purpose of this case study was to use Yosso's concept of community cultural wealth to demonstrate how administrators can engage Latinx parents in an urban high school by being responsive to families' needs and the ways in which parents want to engage with the school. Our findings have implications for research on parent engagement and for school-based practitioners seeking to engage their communities.
