Listening to Children's Voices as a Socially Engaged Practice
Leung, Suzannie K. Y.
Art Education, v76 n1 p68-72 2023
In this article, the author introduces a series of socially engaged practices conducted between April 2019 and August 2020. In this project, titled "Project Superhero," children made meaning and projected their wishes through pretend play as superheroes. Their superhero gadgets were semiotic resources helping to reveal the children's thoughts and feelings toward their school lives. This project aimed to provide children with opportunities to express their voices through pretend-play activities and to share their voices with adults through a media platform and exhibition.
