The Relationship between a Wellness Intervention and First-Year Retention
Olfert, Melissa; Zegre, Sera Janson; Hagedorn-Hatfield, Rebecca
Journal of Student Affairs Research and Practice, v59 n5 p544-558 2022
This study examines involvement in a wellness intervention, GetFRUVED, and its relationship between both first-year retention and cumulative grade point average (GPA) of first-time undergraduate students. A significant relationship between GetFRUVED participation and retention, specifically 12.4% higher retention for participants versus non-participants was present. No significant relationship was shown between participation and GPA. This study highlights the value that campus-based wellness interventions can have on first-year retention, especially among students at risk for leaving the institution.
