Homebound: Arts-Informed Narrative Reflection
Broome, Jeffrey L.; Broome, Rex
Art Education, v75 n6 p8-11 2022
In this article Jeffrey Broome uses narrative reflection to share the story of relocating his parents, Jim and Pat Broome, in the middle of a pandemic to their new home near him in Florida. Jeffrey Broome combines his own story with lyrics authored by his brother, Rex Broome, and photographs provided by friends. The story begins with a sense of isolation, yet concludes with unexpected overtones related to community bonds as elucidated through combined art forms and an expressive writing style associated with literary arts rather than academic research. A concluding epilogue discusses the power of art to crystallize experiences in ways that can be applied to various settings, including classroom situations.
