Summary: It's More than Just Share Time

This article aims to outline the important role of the summary phase within a mathematics instructional model and provide six strategies to support teachers to move beyond "share time." By drawing upon good teaching strategies during the summary phase, teachers can enhance the learning experience for themselves and for their students. The following strategies are discussed: (1) Select and sequence work examples; (2) Varying the action of the students' thinking (inverting the learning); (3) Vary the representation; (4) Imagine visualisations; (5) Create an anchor chart; and (6) Build a word wall.
