Integrating the Historical Holocaust
Ineson, Sam
Teaching History, n188 p52-60 Sep 2022
How can we help students understand the Holocaust in its full historical complexity, particularly when they often come to class with misconceptions arising from the representation of the Holocaust in popular culture? Over a three-year period, Sam Ineson set out to integrate the historical Holocaust into his school's formal and informal curriculum, developing a scheme of learning that integrated the stories of the Holocaust into the wider narrative of the Second World War and to explore events at the individual level, challenging stereotypes. Ineson also created a school museum, bringing Holocaust artefacts into history and pastoral teaching, and integrated a Holocaust timeline into the history corridor.
