Help Wanted! Two-Year Colleges Are Not Immune to Challenges in Hiring and Retention, Especially in Certain Areas
Finkel, Ed
Community College Journal, v92 n5 p33-39 Apr-May 2022
Like employers of many stripes, community colleges are facing their own challenges with the so-called "Great Resignation," particularly in key faculty and staff roles like nursing instructors, financial aid counselors and custodians. This article describes challenges in hiring and retention in those three roles, as well as examples of how schools are attempting to mitigate the problems. The author finds that hiring issues can be helped through efforts such as drawing on reserves and emphasizing benefits; retention issues by leaning into professional development and internal promotions.
