A sociometric study of ethnic cleavage carried out at an all boys secondary school in London found, it is stated, that in all year groups pupils significantly preferred children of their own ethnic groups as friends; comparison of age groups revealed a clear progression with a higher degree of ethnic self group preference in the fourth year.
