A Practice of Gratitude
Carpenter Estrada, Tara
Art Education, v74 n6 p19-23 2021
The author started an artistic gratitude practice in March before the pandemic shut everything down. Every day the author writes something to be grateful for, and randomly selects two art supplies from a mason jar. Then, a postcard-sized artwork is made using those supplies and a gratitude journal as a prompt. While this practice has been deeply personal, the author believes it has broader applications for art education that could be adapted to art classrooms. This article will explore this project's connection to gratitude and art therapy, and it will share ideas that can be utilized in the classroom.
