Exploring Diversity and Inclusivity in Montessori (Part 1)
Oesting, Tammy; Speed, Ashley
Montessori Life: A Publication of the American Montessori Society, v30 n3 p45-49 Fall 2018
This is the first article in a series about diversity and inclusivity in Montessori environments. The series addresses the necessity of intentional, anti-bias-oriented teachings and practices and highlight some of the movers and shakers the authors have identified as working for social justice in Montessori. For the first article, they invite Montessori for Social Justice co-president Tiffany Jewell to write on the intersection between Montessori pedagogy and social justice. Next, they interview Andy Lulka, moderator of the Montessori Teachers Facebook group, about anti-bias practices in Montessori. At the end of the article are resources for students and adults that increases authentic representation, as well as jump-start or augment one's own learning about diversity and inclusivity.
