Ensuring Equitable and Accessible Technology: A View from the CEC Division of Innovations in Special Education Technology (ISET)
Kaczorowski, Tara; Howorth, Sarah
TEACHING Exceptional Children, v53 n6 p402-403 Jul 2021
Remote learning during the COVID-19 pandemic has been a global challenge, drawing attention to issues of inequitable access to digital resources and Internet service (Lai & Widmar, 2021). The ability for schools to provide quality special education services using remote delivery models was a particular challenge for many districts (Jameson et al., 2020). Innovations in Special Education Technology (ISET; formally TAM) is a division of the Council for Exceptional Children focused on providing educators (current and future), professionals, and family members innovative technology-based solutions for today's educational needs. As an organization, ISET seeks to promote ways technology solutions can be further implemented in the lives of students with a range of learning needs, including those with disabilities. During the pandemic, ISET has focused their efforts on supporting special education professionals throughout the pandemic and one of their goals for 2021 is to more intentionally integrate diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives into all they do.
