College and the Cure: Education and Career Considerations of Childhood Cancer Survivors
Bauman, Stephanie; Taylor, Grace
Journal of Student Affairs Research and Practice, v58 n3 p310-321 2021
This qualitative study examined educational and career-related issues of 8 young adult survivors of childhood cancer. Participants described factors that detracted from academic performance and reported continued vigilance in regard to their health and level of stress. In regard to careers, the cancer experience led some to exclude certain professions from consideration but also gave rise to opportunities, areas of focus, or an interest in helping others. Implications for professionals in student affairs are considered.
