Making Science Core Again -- Teaching High-Quality Science in a Time-Poor Curriculum
Davey, Jemima
Primary Science, n166 p15-17 Feb 2021
Primary practitioners are tasked with the simultaneously exciting and daunting task of delivering a breadth of curriculum subjects to primary-age children. This makes the choice of profession a varied and engaging vocation in which no day is the same as the one before. When looking ahead at science medium-term planning, it may seem like a considerable challenge to cover all the necessary learning objectives in just six weeks. Primary science is often viewed as the 'non-core' core subject. In this article, the author addresses the challenges of offering high-quality science experiences in the classroom while also meeting the range of curriculum expectations. The ideas presented demonstrate a fraction of the ways in which science can be established at the core of the primary classroom.
