Foodscapes: Understanding and Mapping Our Food Culture
Greenleaf, Melissa; Robinson, Michael
Geography Teacher, v17 n3 p109-116 2020
The food experience involves much more than physical nourishment but also the practice of acquiring, preparing, and sharing food that defines the foodscape. This lesson will look at the term foodscape and describe its application to Mexican migrants developed in the thesis "Transnational Mexican Foodscapes in Colorado Springs" (Greenleaf 2019). Students will describe their personal foodscapes by answering a set of questions. Finally, students will take the information from their foodscape questions to create their personal foodscape map. This lesson can be adapted to most grade levels.
