Perspectives in HRD-Online Learning: A System of Knowledge Transfer While Building a Strong Virtual Community
Clark, Haley Elizabeth
New Horizons in Adult Education & Human Resource Development, v32 n3 p76-81 Sum 2020
This essay explores the advantages and disadvantages of online learning courses in relation to traditional courses and considers the need to create an online learning environment that reflects positive characteristics of traditional courses. A common deficiency in online learning environments is the ability to create an 'organic' and spontaneous feel of a traditional course while also cultivating strong networking and online community engagement that transfers rich and informative course content. While offering my own perspective on fundamental theories, it is also acknowledged that online learning can be adapted to suit many theories, ideas, and practices. It is imperative that an understanding of student objectives and need for networking is taken into consideration alongside knowledge transfer and a blend of activities that move the student from learning, to applying the given content.
