Global Leadership: Competitiveness, Tolerance and Creativity--A Canadian Provincial Example
Mullen, Carol A.
International Journal of Leadership in Education, v23 n2 p223-237 2020
Certain global leadership forces -- competitiveness, tolerance and creativity -- are so pervasive that they can be illustrated on the part of any country. However, nations also have unique dynamics to consider within our interconnected world. This is the overarching issue being expressed in this essay wherein the Carol Mullen deconstructs Canada's official narrative using documented sources. Toward this end, Mullen asked, what are some global forces, trends and dynamics of educational reform that are relevant for Canada and more specifically for Ontario? Across the literature sources reviewed on creativity and related topics about Canada, official public discourse from the Canadian government and sponsors (e.g. policies and reports), and the news stories, creativity in Canada was identified in relation to competitiveness and tolerance. Therefore, the review findings are organized into the following sections: competitiveness frame; tolerance frame; creativity frame; competitiveness takeaway; tolerance takeaway; and creativity takeaway.
