He, Jinxia; Huang, Xiaoxia
Journal of Educational Multimedia and Hypermedia, v29 n1 p35-53 Jan 2020
The study examined students' perceptions of using student-created group videos as an alternative assessment in an online course. Participants included 82 undergraduate students who were pre-service teachers from a large university in Northeast of the United States. Results indicated the student-created group video project promoted active learning. Student learning was scaffolded and students had a better understanding of the content. In addition, the video project enhanced communication and collaboration skills for online teamwork, and participants developed essential skills for their future teaching. The best practices of using student-created videos as an assessment strategy were examined as well.
