Menano, Luisa; Fidalgo, PatrĂcia; Santos, Ieda M.; Thormann, Joan
Computers in the Schools, v36 n3 p222-236 2019
This article incorporates a multidisciplinary approach by reviewing the use of 3D printing and 3D printing in art. It contains a brief background about the 3D printing process and a description of how 3D printing is being used in schools. Examples of how artists are currently using this new technology are provided to encourage art education teachers to broaden their perspective and approach in their classes. The article concludes that successful use of 3D printing in the curriculum can be enhanced with collaboration between teachers, art educators, and technicians. Recommendations for practice and research such as teacher training, developing repositories for student work and lesson plans, and examining the challenges as well as investigating the impact of the use of 3D printing in the learning experience are suggested.
