Our Voices Matter: Using Video-Cued Ethnography to Facilitate a Conversation about Race between Parents of Color and Preservice Teachers
Campbell, Kathlene Holmes; Valauri, Anne
Anthropology & Education Quarterly, v50 n3 p333-339 Sep 2019
This article highlights how video-cued ethnography (VCE) helped facilitate conversations about race between parents of color and preservice teachers. Utilizing VCE, we conducted exchanges between both groups to determine what would occur if they engaged in asynchronous discussions about the impact of race in schools. Two notable shifts emerged: (1) the necessity of conversations to end racial oppression and (2) the importance of challenging inequities to present a racially conscious curriculum to young children.
