Journal of College Student Development, v59 n6 p666-680 Nov-Dec 2018
The purpose of this study was to explore outness among bisexual, pansexual, and fluid (BPF) undergraduate students. Data for this study originated from The National LGBT Alumni Survey (Garvey, 2016) and includes 367 BPF respondents. We utilized a linear regression analysis to understand the influences of independent variables on BPF student outness using D'Augelli's (1994) model of lesbian, gay, and bisexual development. The linear regression analysis explained 33% (p <0.001) of the variance in outness among BPF respondents. We found a clear connection between BPF students' outness and institutional experiences, and in particular, the significant influence of campus climate perceptions.
