Arts Integration: A Creative Pathway for Teaching
Duma, Amy L.; Silverstein, Lynne B.
Educational Leadership, v76 n4 p55-59 Dec 2018
Can choreographing a dance help students grasp the water cycle? Or painting a portrait demonstrate their understanding of the achievements of a historical figure? The Kennedy Center's CETA (Changing Education Through the Arts) program is betting on it. CETA works with schools in the Washington, D.C., area to help teachers integrate the arts with curriculum. Students learn through creative experiences that connect an art form--dancing, acting, writing, drawing, singing--and an academic subject to gain greater understanding in both. Discover how schoolwide arts integration programs are reenergizing teachers' practice and boosting student achievement.
