A popular trend fusing regular and special education, co-teaching aims to combine the content expertise of a general education teacher with a special education teacher's understanding of meeting the needs of a range of learners for the good of all students. Co-teaching also serves as a vehicle for actualizing characteristics of successful schools for young adolescents. This article explores the perceptions of two co-teachers and 19 of the middle school students enrolled in their co-taught, sixth grade reading/language arts classroom. Five areas of interest emerged from a Likert scale survey and individual interview data: multiple perspectives, teacher expectations, teaching methods, accessibility, and efficacy. Each of these themes aligns with one of the characteristics of successful schools for young adolescents.
