Inspiring Large-Scale Empowerment and Innovation in Education: An Interview with Ted Dintersmith
Ambrose, Don
Roeper Review, v40 n2 p73-75 2018
Ted Dintersmith's efforts to give young adults the skills and characteristics they need to be successful span film, written publications, and talks--all directed at advocating for a school system that prepares kids for life, not standardized tests. Among his film work, Dintersmith executive produced "Most Likely to Succeed" (Dintersmith & Whiteley, 2015), an acclaimed documentary that premiered at Sundance. He wrote, along with co-author Tony Wagner, the book "Most Likely to Succeed: Preparing Our Kids for the Innovation Era" (Wagner & Dintersmith, 2016). His most recent book, "What School Could Be" (Dintersmith, 2018), shares inspiring examples of education based on his travels to all 50 states in a single school year. Among the topics covered in this interview are: what led Dintersmith to become an advocate for innovative education; his vision of a 21st-century education; the purpose and content of his most recent documentary about educational innovation; and teachers and/or educational administrators that have inspired him.
