International Journal on E-Learning, v17 n1 p95-110 Jan 2018
Teaching team-based patient competencies to health sciences students has proven to be a challenging endeavor. This paper describes two hands-on learning experiences and their subsequent evaluation. In both of these experiences telehealth technology served as both a distance education e-learning technology, as well as a medium to provide patient care. A mixed method approach measured and explored student attitudes toward interprofessional teamwork and the use of telehealth technology. Adaptations of the Attitudes Toward Healthcare Teams Scale (ATHCTS), the Telehealth Acceptance Questionnaire (TAQ) and guided reflection prompts were used. The results identify potential instructional gaps and offer unique insights into crucial solutions for teaching future clinicians about telehealth and interprofessional teamwork.
