"But Haven't You Got Enough to Do?" Getting Involved in Action Research
Kowalczyk, Sheetal
Primary Science, n148 p31-32 May 2017
In this article, Sheetal Kowalczyk, a science coordinator and specialist science teacher at Bromley High Junior School in Bromley, Kent, reflects upon her teaching experiences and the importance of research in supporting and developing her practice. Kowalczyk works for the Girl's Day School Trust (GDST), which embarked on a project in collaboration with the University College London (UCL) Institute of Education, Centre for Knowledge Exchange and Impact in Education. The overall concept of the project is that a cohort of staff from across the GDST is being supported in designing and delivering, and ultimately sharing, the results of a piece of classroom-based research on any area of interest. Kowalczyk's plan is to use National Science Week to run a series of STEM workshops with the aim of getting her whole primary school involved in the CLEAPSS Marble Keep-y-Uppy competition. The crux will be measuring what impact this week has on engagement with STEM for all pupils, their parents, and staff.
