College Student Journal, v51 n3 p424-428 Fall 2017
This study sought to compare the results of a 1985 study by Roscoe, Krug, and Schmidt, who surveyed high school students and their use of written forms of self-expression, with university undergraduates and graduate students in 2016. This study also sought to develop an updated survey instrument for use in obtaining information concerning a person's use of written forms for self-expression. The 1985 study focused on poetry, diary entries, songwriting, and short-stories as forms of self-expression. This 2016 study focused on poetry, songwriting, journaling, short stories as forms of written self-expression using text messaging, blogging, and social media.
