The Three E's of Online Discussion
Dixon, Carmen S.
Quarterly Review of Distance Education, v15 n1 p1-8 2014
Online discussion is becoming more widespread as online classes move to the forefront of education. However, information for teachers about effective use of the online method of instruction is not readily available. This article identifies three models of discussion, extracts the elements from those models that will work well online, and combines them into one new model. "The Three E's of Online Discussion" addresses three elements--experience, engagement, and evaluation--that teach students to successfully participate in an online community, lead students to become active learners, and promote clarity and ease of use.
