Acquisitions on history and historical topics constitute an important section of Social Studies curricula. Such a curricula which is prepared on the basis of a constructivist approach should be applied within the light of accurately chosen methods. Performing social studies course, one of main objectives of which is to train active citizens by means of proper methods will ensure historical acquisitions, as presented in the curriculum, to be realized more accurately. As a result of students' acquisitions achieved through the acquisition the application of the proper methods towards historical topics, it is easy to learn and students will do better bindings with their daily lives. Therefore, students will learn historical topics more easily and make better associations with their daily lives. In this study conducted within the light of this purpose, portfolio prepared by Social Studies Teacher Training students of Sakarya University in the courses of Teaching Practice were subjected to document analysis. It was found out that prospective teachers did not use the methods and techniques sufficiently as required for an effective social studies course.
