Financial literacy is the ability to understand how money works in a person's day-to-day life: how someone earns money, manages it, invests it, and donates it to help others. As librarians, we must realize that when patrons come to us for guidance in the area of financial literacy, they are trusting us to provide not only reliable information for their finances, but also, in many cases, information that may well keep a roof over their head and food on the table. At the same time, with the continuing escalation of database prices, especially in the area of business and finance, libraries are having to make increasingly difficult decisions as to what to retain and what to discontinue. The case studies and the works cited in this paper are presented to enable librarians to educate themselves about resources in financial literacy to better serve patrons using freely available resources that are accurate and timely.
