Student "Mentor" and "Leadership" Programs impact the climate and culture of schools. Students are capable of outstanding leadership when given the opportunities and constructs to be successful. The evidence is clear that those schools that embrace student leadership and mentor programs have more positive events, activities, student involvement, reduced drop-out rates and reduced discipline issues. Presented in this article is a list of possibilities and approaches to encourage student leadership and mentor programs with a focus that is based on the curriculum available in the public schools of Ontario (Canada). All of these options are adaptable to any schools. Because most parents would like to see their children developing leadership skills and mentor strategies for success later in life, many of these options can be adopted by elite or private schools as a way of marketing the leadership opportunities available within their school.
