The Transfer Moment: The Pivotal Partnership between Community Colleges and Four-Year Institutions in Securing the Nation's College Completion Agenda
Handel, Stephen J.
New Directions for Higher Education, n162 p5-15 Sum 2013
This chapter addresses transfer from a community college to a four-year institution, an important pathway for students seeking the bachelor's degree, especially students from underserved groups. The transfer pathway will be an increasingly important source of bachelor's degree holders as colleges and universities strive to meet President Obama's college completion agenda. The chapter notes that the extent to which students are relying on community colleges to fuel their progress toward the bachelor's degree is substantial, and presents reasons why the need for a robust and efficient transfer process will
become ever more important, as it will serve the nation well to focus on this academic pathway while attempting to increase the number of students
with the bachelor's degree.
