Leading with Dignity after Reassignment
Lommen, Kathleen
Leadership, v42 n4 p32-34, 38 Mar-Apr 2013
Refreshed from a leadership summit, the author is determined to share her story so that effective school leaders can also learn to thrive in spite of leadership changes that may burden their administrative teams, whether it is due to budget cuts, program realignment, organizational changes or just plain bullying behaviors. The author has discovered that most folks do not want to talk openly about reassignment. After rigorous reading on leadership, listening to dynamic speakers at conferences and with much contemplation, the author presents some ideas here for other school leaders who may be seeking answers about their own administrative situation. This article is meant to teach what she has learned about maintaining dignity, keeping her sanity and modeling what one expects others to do, so that in the end students can achieve in the classroom without unnecessary distractions.
