The Content Dimension of Educational Technology: How Does It Work for Education in Europe?
Cernochova, Miroslava
Educational Technology, v52 n2 p44-49 Mar-Apr 2012
The aim of this article is to present a concept of digital content emphasizing its new shape and ways to be developed and shared on Web 2.0 principles. Due to recent EU initiatives, a great number of digital materials, resources, and services for education have been designed and produced in recent years. Digital content from materials such as these is expected to be re-used many times in different educational and technological contexts, and implemented in different learning platforms and systems. In order to achieve this intention, we must examine some corresponding issues and needs. First, there are technological questions regarding reusability, interoperability, accessibility, durability, standards, improvement of tools for searching, etc., to be solved. Secondly, how we respond to these economic questions demands a new business model. Thirdly, there are corresponding social questions insisting on abiding by international copyrights and fair use agreements, and establishment of communities of interest around digital resources.
