To ascertain whether an influx of new lawyers would indeed depress earnings or drive marginally successful lawyers to other fields of work, this article: examines the structure of the legal-services industry, ascertains the determinants of lawyers' incomes, and attempts to predict the current and potential increases in the number of lawyers.
