This article traces the etiology and nature of our concern for Vietnam-era vets and suggests that a successful placement program depends upon three factors: (a) an understanding of the characteristics of present-day veterans, (b) an awareness of agencies, programs, and industries comprising the network of helping services, and (c) knowledge of employers and the nature of the jobs available.
