Aboriginal Family Education Centres began in 1967 at a Baptist camp in New South Wales when a group of 45-60 Aboriginal people made plans for providing educational opportunities for themselves and their children under school age. Foundation aid has helped the growth of the project, which has similarities to the play group approach used in England and New Zealand. (MF)
