Exploring the Factors Contributing to Low Student Engagement in a Title I School in Southeast Texas
Casaundra N. Johnson
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Lamar University - Beaumont
This dissertation investigates the factors contributing to low student engagement in a Title I school located in Southeast Texas. Recognizing the critical importance of student engagement for academic success, the study employs a qualitative phenomenological approach to explore teachers' perceptions of the underlying causes of disengagement within their classrooms. Through interviews with twelve K-8 teachers, the research identifies key themes related to the definition and dimensions of student engagement, including in-class participation, social-emotional factors, and the influence of teacher attitudes and instructional practices.
