Secondary Teachers' Descriptions on Administrative Support to Increase Veteran Teacher Retention
Leona O'Dear
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, Capella University
Veteran teachers leaving the profession, for a variety of reasons, increase the teacher shortages that impact school districts throughout the United States. The current research study was developed to address a gap that exists in the research regarding what types of administrative support could increase veteran teacher retention. The study answered the research question: What are teachers' perceptions regarding administrative support to positively impact veteran teacher retention? To address this question, basic qualitative interviews were conducted with a sample population of 11 participants. Thematic analysis of transcriptions was utilized. Though the results of the study could be separated into three main sections, (a) feedback, (b) professional actions, and (c) personal traits, each main section has a variety of subheadings. Recommendations are made regarding professional development for administrators and new procedures. [The dissertation citations contained here are published with the permission of ProQuest LLC.
