The Influence of Secondary School Leadership Styles on School Culture
Christopher Gentilezza
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Wilkes University
The purpose of this quantitative, non-experimental, causal-comparative study with a self-reported survey design was to investigate how the leadership styles of secondary-school leaders influence school culture. Participants involved secondary-school administrators across four intermediate units in Eastern Pennsylvania: LIU 18, NEIU 19, CIU 20, and CLIU 21 (n = 38). Secondary-school administrators were given an online survey to elicit responses of their school's culture through the lens of a selected leadership style. The results of the Kruskal-Wallis Test indicated that there was no significant difference in either of the school culture scores sub-scale, "ED School Climate Survey -- Noninstructional Staff Survey," and school safety scores sub-scale, "Principal/School Disciplinarian Survey on School Violence." Because of these results, the null hypothesis was accepted, which stated that there was no significance in a leadership style influencing the perceived culture of a school. The data generated significant practical implications and recommendations for future research, despite the absence of statistical significance, as discussed throughout this study.
