Rebecca A. Alejos
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, The University of Texas at San Antonio
This study is an exploration of experiences of Chicanx butch lesbian students who are navigating higher education environments in San Antonio, TX. Focused on the intersection of race, gender, and sexual identities, the testimonios in this study highlight how Chicanx butch lesbian students subvert and challenge dominant heteronormative and patriarchal norms on and off campus. Testimonios reveal the complexities of Chicanx butch lesbian identity formation and their resilience. Examining sociohistorical context and campus climates, this study illuminates the multifaceted oppressions that Chicanx butch lesbian students encounter and their strategies for resistance. The findings emphasize the need for inclusive policies and practices to support the unique experiences of Chicanx butch lesbians in higher education, contributing to an equitable higher education landscape.
