Melissa B. King-Knowles
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Lamar University - Beaumont
The purpose of this dissertation-in-practice was to explore the dimensions of support for assistant principals in one southeast Texas mid-sized suburban public school district in conjunction with improving the overall efficacy of campus leaders while also bolstering the organizational leadership pipeline. Sixteen current or former assistant principals (APs) shared their experiences with the district developed dimensions of support in attempt to alleviate a clog in the organizational leadership pipeline at the AP level. The researcher sought to learn participants' perspectives on the efficacy of the district's various dimensions of support provided in relation to the transition into school leadership, ongoing professional development, and principal readiness. The researcher concluded that the district's efforts, especially in recent years, were beneficial in providing clarity to the entry-level school leadership position, as well as in promoting growth within their current role and in preparation for career advancement. Implications for practice include recommendations for other school districts facing similar challenges to help better develop their own future-ready school leaders.
