Exploring the Relationship between the Perceived Teacher and Principal Relationship Quality, Self-Rated Psychological Capital and Job Satisfaction
Petra Maria Garza-Reyes
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, Our Lady of the Lake University
The teaching profession has faced numerous challenges each year due to the increasing demands on teachers. These challenges were only further intensified by the obstacles created by the COVID-19 pandemic. One of those challenges includes teacher turnover. Teacher turnover was exacerbated by the pandemic and continues to present as a challenge. Understanding how teacher-principal relationship quality and the teacher's psychological capital (PsyCap) and its facets impacts teachers' job satisfaction will help administrators further explore strategies that enhance overall job satisfaction. There are limited studies that exist related to relationship quality (teacher-principal), (teacher) PsyCap, and its impact on job satisfaction. The purpose of this study is to better understand the factors that are impacting the relationship quality between the teacher and the principal in elementary, middle school, and high school, the teacher's PsyCap, and job satisfaction. The instruments utilized were the Leader Member Exchange (LMX), PsyCap Questionnaire (PCQ), and the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ). The results of this study will add to the body of literature on relationship quality, PsyCap, and job satisfaction.
