Transformational Leadership in a Hybrid Work Environment
Katie Walk
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, University of Missouri - Columbia
This article presents a comprehensive case study examining transformational leadership strategies of a leader in a hybrid work environment within a higher education institution. Drawing upon the principles of transformational leadership theory and hybrid work research, the study delves into the leadership effectiveness of a high-level academic leader at a two-year technical college in Wisconsin. Through a qualitative analysis of interviews of the academic leaders' team related to their experience of her leadership activities, observations of meetings she led, and organizational documents she authored, the findings of this study detail how the leader employed various components of transformational leadership, including inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, individualized consideration, and idealized influence, to be a successful leader and how the leadership approach has been adapted for a hybrid work environment. Finally, leadership recommendations are explored that include adapting communication type and frequency, use of technology, and establishment of relationships through in-person team building.
