Evaluating Technology Insertion Strategies in Complex Organizations

This case study research explores how organizational change dynamics influence the integration and adoption of innovative information system (IS) technologies in complex organizations. It presents a case study of the development, implementation, and integration of the Ripper Academy platform within the United States Marine Corps' distributed learning environment. The platform was designed to enhance distance learning programs by facilitating user-generated content and supporting knowledge management practices. The Ripper Academy case offers insight into the socio-technical dimensions of IS integration and the interplay between technology and organizational change. The case highlights challenges and strategies for IS integration into established organizational structures and provides insights into overcoming organizational inertia, managing resistance to change, and leveraging user-generated content to capture and disseminate tacit knowledge. The research contributes to the broader discourse on knowledge management, organizational decision-making, and change management, offering lessons for other IS modernization and integration initiatives in complex organizations.
