Barriers Impacting the Integration of Classroom Technology in Primary Schools in Lagos, Nigeria
Solomon Adeola Oshowole
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Saint Leo University
Integrating technology in classrooms has been discussed in many countries. Technology integration in Lagos, Nigeria, faces significant challenges due to several factors, including inadequate infrastructure, limited access to technology, and insufficient teacher training. The lack of reliable electricity and internet connectivity hinders schools' ability to utilize technological tools and resources effectively. Additionally, many schools need more digital devices, which impedes the teaching of basic digital literacy. Many teachers have not received adequate training in integrating digital tools into their teaching methods, leaving them unprepared for effective technology utilization in the classroom (ADECT, 2019). This qualitative study will focus on the barriers impacting classroom technology integration in primary schools in Lagos, Nigeria. Specifically, it will examine the challenges associated with access to technology, teacher training, infrastructure, lack of funding, and other factors. Solutions to these challenges will focus on improving access to technology, providing adequate teacher training, and ensuring the necessary infrastructure to integrate technology-based learning activities in the classroom effectively. Technology in the classroom at primary schools in Lagos, Nigeria, is essential in providing students with a quality education. Schools must have sufficient digital devices, including computers, tablets, and interactive whiteboards. This can be achieved through government funding, partnerships with private-sector companies, and international aid. Ensuring students can access these tools is essential for fostering digital literacy and engagement (ADECT, 2019a). Creating digital libraries and providing access to online educational resources can supplement physical textbooks and materials. This ensures that students can access up-to-date information and benefit from a wide range of learning materials (Ajayi, 2020).
