This quantitative correlational study explored the relationship between intrinsic and extrinsic job factors and overall teacher job satisfaction, focusing on their impact on teacher retention in four California charter schools. The purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to examine the relationship between various intrinsic, extrinsic, and demographic factors and overall teacher job satisfaction and their impact on teacher retention rates in four California charter school. The study addressed three research questions: the relationship between job factors and satisfaction, the influence of demographic variables on satisfaction, and the correlation between overall job satisfaction and retention. The study collected data from 31 teachers using the Teacher Job Satisfaction Questionnaire (TJSQ). The analysis employed correlation and multiple regression methods to explore relationships between job satisfaction factors and teacher retention. Findings revealed that intrinsic factors such as supervision and recognition had a significant impact on job satisfaction, while some extrinsic factors, particularly pay, did not show a strong correlation with satisfaction in this specific charter school context. Years of experience emerged as a significant demographic factor influencing satisfaction. A positive relationship between overall satisfaction and retention was observed, indicating that teachers with higher satisfaction levels were less likely to leave their positions. The study recommended that school leaders implement strategies such as professional development, peer mentoring, and improvements in working conditions to enhance teacher satisfaction. These findings provide valuable insights for educational leaders and practitioners, highlighting the need for targeted strategies to improve teacher retention in charter schools.
