Transformational Leadership and Innovation Create a Cybersecurity Conscious Organizational Culture

This qualitative descriptive research study was conducted to explore the impact that transformational leadership and innovation have in creating a cybersecurity conscious organizational culture. The value of having a cybersecurity conscious organizational culture through transformational leadership and innovation is described in line with higher levels of cybersecurity detection and protection from data breaches and security incidents. The key problem this study intends to address is the literature gap that exists regarding the role that transformational leadership and innovation play in the creation of a cybersecurity conscious organizational culture. The data discovered and collected in this study was obtained via one-on-one interviews with 15 senior level executives from small to massive sized organizations from four industries. The thematic content analysis and description focused coding methodology and processes were utilized in the data analysis process. The findings and results that were realized through this research study showed that transformational leadership, due to its unique leader-follower relationship changed the beliefs, practices, values and behaviors of individuals towards cybersecurity consciousness. In addition, the study revealed that innovation facilitated cybersecurity thinking and actions by individuals leading to cybersecurity conscious culture. The implications and importance of this study is that it will aid organizations in having better protections against cyberattacks and data breaches by having a cybersecurity conscious culture through transformational leadership and innovation.
